Art as a whole is a truly subjective medium, what is inspiring to one person may not be inspiring to another, yet there has
always been one universal core to art for me, texture ~ the way dried paint feels on a canvas, the length of a brush stroke,
the smoothness of glass, the raised patterns of tile…..the art of mosaics gave me the ability to transform my original
drawings into art that was not only pleasing to the eye, but also to the touch. It also gave me a way to make some of my work
sustainable and functional. I create mosaic art that can be hung on a wall and compliment a room’s interior design, and I
also create functional art such as kitchen backsplashes and company logos.
I draw my inspiration from many sources ~ Gustav Klimt’s use of texture, Jackson Pollock’s sense of freedom from the norm,
the vivid colors of the orient, everyday items, food, wine, and textures. I specialize in “micro mosaics”, the inlaying of very
small pieces of tesserae with tweezers; that, along with the flowing backgrounds in many of my pieces which has been
referred to as evocative of Van Gogh brush strokes has become my trademark. It is challenging, time consuming and
engrossing, but I wouldn’t do it any other way.
My work has been published in Mosaic Art-2 (2006), Mosaic Art-3 (2007) and Mosaic Art-4 (2008), an international portfolio
of contemporary mosaic art on CD-ROM. All three CDs illustrate the extraordinary diversity and creativity of contemporary
mosaic art by mosaic artists worldwide. I have commissioned work in several local homes and businesses, one of my pieces
was featured on the front page of The News Leader, I was the Featured Artist in the Sept/Oct 2008 issue of Art, Music,
Theatre, and was recently interviewed for Meet the Artist, a production of LSCC Television (http://www.lscc.edu/tvstudio).
A native Floridian, I currently reside with my husband and three cats in Minneola, FL.
